Barnes & Noble buying trip of 2014

We had a blast on our annual book buying trip. We loaded the bus and left for the store. The students knew what they wanted and were very anxious to begin spending the school's money. The books were picked out in record time. While they were being rung up, we all enjoyed some time at Starbucks. Then it was on to lunch at Chuy's. This was a first time restaurant for all of us. The food was fabulous.

We had extra time, so permission was gotten, and we headed to Hobby Lobby to buy some decorations for the library. Everyone had a great day!

Some of the new titles we bought were:

November 20th

The library has been very busy this week. Lots of classes scheduling in for computers and books. We now have a set of Chromebooks for classes to use. This has increased the number of students. The library can provide technology for 5 classes during any given class period. Being able to provide service to 150 students at any given time during the day is a huge success for us. This of course doesn't mean that we are not checking out books.

Circulation is up 23% this year. I have always believed that the secret to getting students to check out books is to simply get them where the books are. This is why we place libraries in classrooms. Next week is our big buying trip to Barnes & Noble. My aides are very excited about going.

It has been an interesting day in the library. The labs were all full - even the laptops. Students were using the ipads and reading! YEAH! Belinda worked very hard on the new bulletin board. I hope to get a pic of it up tomorrow when she finishes it. Makenzie and Blake shelved books like always, and of course Denise and Maria lowered all the chairs. It is their favorite job.

At the end of the day we had an impromptu seminar on how to take a proper selfie. There is a definite skill to this! Thanks to our students for giving us the proper instructions.

1. Hold phone in only one hand
2. Put other hand on hip
3. Hold phone at an angle
4. Be sure angle is a little downward, so there is no extra stuff in the pic
5. Snap pic
